Hotel market and tourism in Fürth
Hotel am Stadtpark reopens: Why Fürth is now focusing on more guests
The former NH Hotel at Fürth's Stadtpark is set to return under the DORMERO brand as early as mid-June. For the city, the change in operator is more than just a single news item: it stands for a hotel market that is growing again after difficult years – and for tourism, which now measurably contributes to the city's income.
The hotel at Fürth's Stadtpark has been closed since April 30; according to the city, the last day of operation was April 29. As things stand, the property is scheduled to reopen on June 15.
Economic advisor Horst Müller sees the return under the DORMERO brand as an important signal for Fürth – also because other projects are simultaneously bringing new beds to the market and overnight stays have recently increased again.
Why the reopening means more for Fürth than just a change of operator
From the city's point of view, the closure at Stadtpark was not an indication of a lack of demand. Müller said it was not due to occupancy; rather, the previous lease had expired. Precisely because the property is centrally located and, according to Müller, has traditionally been well booked, the temporary closure hit Fürth "painfully."
The location plays a special role: in the past, the hotel was regularly used by artists performing at the city theater or the Comödie Fürth. Demand was also reliably high during the Kirchweih – a pattern that counts in the hotel business because it reflects not only individual peaks but recurring booking occasions.
Müller reported that he immediately contacted the owner after learning of the situation and emphasized how important the property is for the city. According to him, the owner also had the well-being of the location in mind; at the same time, there were several interested parties. That DORMERO is now taking over is seen by Müller as a positive development – and he calls them a "dream candidate."
The city also has a pragmatic expectation: communication is usually easier with regionally rooted contacts than with large international chains. Although DORMERO is officially based in Berlin, according to the city it is closely connected to Middle Franconia – also through the Nuremberg entrepreneurial family Wöhrl.
According to the company, Marcus Maximilian Wöhrl has been the sole shareholder of DORMERO Hotel AG since early 2019. Learn more
There is also the tight schedule: only a few weeks separate the closure and the planned reopening. At the same time, the property is to be renovated and brought up to current standards, according to the city. How extensive the modernization will be in detail will only become clear with the restart – in any case, a quick return to the market is planned.
The Fürth hotel market is growing again
The development at Stadtpark is, according to the city, not an isolated case. Müller places it in the context of a broader recovery and reorganization of the Fürth hotel market. He points to existing properties that have reopened after difficult phases or have been upgraded in quality – including the reopened Hotel-Pyramide and the former Hotel Bavaria, which is now operated under the Evermore brand.
At the same time, new capacities are being added. A B&B Hotel is planned at Hardhöhe; according to project developer Centrotec, the project will include 112 rooms and 250 beds. The official gazette of the city of Fürth also mentions an investment volume of around 8.5 million euros for the hotel building at Siemensstraße 3. Details in the official gazette
In addition, another hotel is to be built on the Hornschuch campus at the city border, and an additional property on the Wolfsgruber site is possible. If these projects are implemented, Fürth would have 28 hotels according to information from the city’s environment.
The supply of furnished apartments is also growing. Stayery plans to open in Flair on June 17; around 60 serviced apartments are planned in Fürth. At the end of the year, ipartment is also set to launch in the renovated Woolworth building. These formats in particular typically target longer stays by business travelers, project teams, or trade fair guests – and can thus fill gaps that classic hotels do not always cover.
The city sees a clear economic logic in this growth. For years, there have been too few beds in Fürth, says Müller. Although Fürth and Nuremberg effectively form a joint hotel market, the city also points to large companies at the location, proximity to the trade fair, and growing tourist importance. Müller therefore calls the return of the property at Stadtpark "an extremely good piece of news" for the tourism location.
However, the city does not see the expansion as limitless. Additional properties must be permanently well utilized; it is crucial to avoid central vacancies and to cover different segments. According to Müller, the city could still accommodate two or three additional hotels – provided supply and demand develop stably.
Tourism remains a relevant economic factor
The city also supports its positive assessment with key figures. In the first quarter of 2026, Fürth recorded an increase of around ten percent in overnight stays, according to Müller – an indication that the market has recently picked up again.
There is also the economic dimension of tourism. In a statement, the city referred to a gross tourism turnover of 283.1 million euros; in addition, 3,960 people derive their primary income from tourism. More on the statistics
For the hotel market, it is also crucial that demand in Fürth does not come only from classic holiday trips. Business trips, cultural events, and trade fairs also play a role. Müller does not see the temporary restriction of operations at Fürth's Stadthalle due to the planned renovation as an advantage, but in his view, it is not a decisive burden either. Businesses in the immediate vicinity could be more affected. The city considers larger events and congresses more important for the accommodation market than concerts, where a large part of the audience comes from the region anyway and does not stay overnight.
For Fürth, the reopening at Stadtpark means more than just a change of name on the hotel facade: it is intended to bring additional stability to a market that is simultaneously building new capacity. Whether the growth will be sustainable will depend on occupancy and demand. From the city's point of view, it is above all the mix of projects, increasing overnight stays, and the demonstrable economic importance of tourism for the location that currently suggest that Fürth can cope with this expansion.
