Hrgota before farewell: Where is Fürth's captain really headed?

Branimir Hrgota is facing the end of his long time at Greuther Fürth. For several days it has been clear that the 33-year-old will leave the club after seven years. Ahead of the away game at Hertha BSC on Sunday (1:30 p.m.), new speculation about his future is therefore coming to the fore – a move to Berlin seems obvious at first glance, but there is currently no reliable evidence for this.

Hertha rumor before the direct duel – but no reliable trace

Additional attention was recently generated by a report from "RevierSport," according to which Hrgota is said to be on the verge of a move to Hertha BSC. In this context, there was even talk of a visit to the capital and that an "agreement in principle" had already been reached – in other words, a basic agreement as is often rumored in transfer business before medical checks, contract details, and signatures are even clarified.

However, this is countered by information that significantly cools the rumor: According to BILD, Hertha has so far not made any contact with Hrgota. In transfer matters, this dividing line is crucial – between publicly circulating scenarios and verifiable talks with the player and the club.

The Leitl/Hrgota connection remains a thought experiment

The fact that the Berlin scenario picked up speed so quickly is also due to the personnel of Stefan Leitl. Hertha's coach has already worked with Hrgota in Fürth; a renewed collaboration would at least be explainable from a sporting perspective. But at present, little suggests that the obvious story will turn into concrete negotiations. As long as there is no contact, the "reunion" remains a construct of transfer logic – not of the facts.

Fürth continues to rely on its captain until the end of the season

Regardless of the debate about the farewell, Hrgota's role in Fürth remains clearly defined. Coach Heiko Vogel makes it clear that the rumors do not guide him in his daily business: "Of course I noticed it. But it doesn't matter to me. He is our captain and will continue to lead the team in the games until the end of the season."

In doing so, the club protects sporting stability in a sensitive phase. Especially when a departure is certain, this can quickly create unrest – Fürth instead relies on a clear hierarchy: Hrgota remains a leading player and focal point until the last matchday, also because a captain on the pitch should not only deliver goals and assists, but also provide communication, responsibility, and direction in tight game phases.

Tendency rather Croatia – Berlin currently without substance

Where Hrgota will end up after the season is still open. According to the current situation, a move to Hertha BSC does not seem likely. Instead, there are indications that the striker is currently tending more towards a move to Croatia.
