Understanding Power: Who Determines Our World in the 21st Century?
On Monday, October 26, 2026, the vhs Fürth invites you to an insightful lecture about power, influence, and social order. Under the title Power – What is Power?, political scientist and lecturer Simon Moritz explores the question of who holds political, economic, and social power today.
Between State, Economy, and Digital Platforms
For a long time, states, military, and economic strength were considered central factors of power. Nowadays, global corporations, social media, and digital platforms increasingly determine which information becomes visible, how debates unfold, and which interests are heard. The lecture contextualizes these developments in an understandable and illustrative manner.
Political Education with Current Relevance
The focus is on different forms of power: political influence, economic dependencies, military strength, and the control of information. The event compares power structures in democracies and autocracies, showing how actors shape the global order. The target audience includes anyone who wants to understand political contexts better and critically assess current developments.
Orientation for Citizens
Particularly exciting is the look at one's own role within modern power structures. What possibilities do citizens have to help shape political processes? How do influence and dependence arise? The lecture connects solid political adult education with concrete questions from everyday life, creating space for reflection.
An Evening for Curious and Politically Interested People
The event atmosphere at vhs Fürth provides an appropriate setting for a focused evening full of food for thought. The event experience thrives on understandable knowledge transfer, current examples, and an audience mood that invites further contemplation. Simon Moritz brings the professional expertise for a nuanced classification as a political scientist and independent lecturer in political adult education.
Conclusion: Recognizing Power Structures and Understanding Relationships
The event promises a compact and well-founded introduction to a topic that equally affects politics, economy, media, and everyday life. Anyone who wants to understand power not only as an abstract concept but as a shaping force of the present will experience an informative evening in Fürth with lasting insights.
