TERRA in Fürth: A photographic journey to the faces of the Earth
On January 7, 2027, the Fürth City Hall will transform into a visual resonance space for landscapes, habitats, and cultures of our planet. In the live multimedia show TERRA, Michael Martin takes the audience through the Arctic, the Himalayas, the Andes, the South Pacific, Arabia, the Amazon Basin, the savannas of East Africa, the taiga of Siberia, and the steppes of Central Asia.
A world journey in ten geographical portraits
For five years, Michael Martin traveled around the globe with his camera. From this intensive body of work, a photographic and geographical portrait emerged that makes the diversity of our planet visible in ten faces. Massive mountain ranges, fragile ice landscapes, tropical rainforests, and open steppes engage in an impressive dialogue.
The projections combine aesthetic experience with geographical knowledge. Colors, lighting moods, and shapes of the landscape shape the exhibition atmosphere of the stage area, while animals, plants, and cultures make the Earth experienceable as a living system.
Photography at the intersection of adventure, research, and cultural education
Michael Martin works at the intersection of photography, geography, and narrative knowledge transfer. As a photographer, speaker, adventurer, and graduate geographer, he has been exploring the world for over four decades. His visual language combines precise observation with a sensual perception of space, climate, and human reality.
TERRA offers more than a series of spectacular nature shots. The project illuminates the history of the Earth, the emergence of life, and the Earth system. The photographic staging leads from geological formations to climatic connections and from remote natural landscapes to the cultures that inhabit these areas.
Large-format images as an intense art experience
The live multimedia show brings the photographs to the stage in large-format projection. This creates an interplay of visual expansiveness, narrated journeys, and concentrated work contemplation. The audience experiences ice, desert, rainforest, high mountains, and savanna not in isolation but as interconnected manifestations of an Earth whose diversity is both fascinating and vulnerable.
In recent decades, Martin has given more than 2,000 lectures and published over 30 photo books and books. His work has been awarded, among other honors, with a gold medal from the Royal Geographical Society, the Gregor International Calendar Award, and the ITB Book Award for his life's work.
An evening for photography and travel enthusiasts
The event is aimed at everyone who wants to connect landscape photography, nature observation, geography, and cultural education. The careful curation of the image sequence creates access to different climate zones and life worlds and invites a re-examination of one’s relationship with the Earth.
Conclusion: TERRA promises an impressive art experience that blends photographic precision, geographical storytelling, and emotional closeness. Those who wish to combine the aesthetic experience of extraordinary landscapes with well-founded knowledge about our planet should experience this evening live at the Fürth City Hall.
